You’ll depart from Entebbe early in the morning to arrive in Fort Portal around lunchtime. After lunch, you’ll embark on a relatively short ride of about 39 kilometers through an area dotted with crater lakes. The beautiful scenery will steal your heart. The route takes you along wide gravel roads with many small climbs, and a few sections of singletrack that are not overly technical. If it’s a clear day, you can see the snow-capped peaks of the Rwenzori mountain range in the distance. The route ends at a beautiful lodge located on the edge of a crater lake, offering stunning views of the surroundings. There are also other accommodations available nearby.

Today’s ride begins with a mostly downhill stretch, followed by a flat route to the northern entrance of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The first part of the route includes some small single tracks but mostly takes place on wide unpaved roads, passing through various villages. The second half of the route follows a paved road, with a high chance of spotting some wild animals along the way.

Today you will cycle straight through the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Expect to see elephants, buffaloes and lots of gazelle’s, kobs and bocks. The trip will be relatively long (91km) but very flat. Alternatively, you could go for a boat safari and/or drive safari in the park. The lodge manager can help you organize this. We advise you to organize lunch at the lodge where you leave from so you can bring it for a picknick in the park.

Challenging route to the border of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: Buhoma. Buhoma lies at 1400 metres above sea level. Today will be a preparation for what’s to come on tomorrow. BE aware that the last stretch to gorilla conservation camp is a very steep one. You might have to walk a few 100 metres. But it’s worth the climb, because the view is superb. And you will also support gorilla research work, because all profits of this camp will go into a research fund. You can ask your lodge to prepare your lunch or visit a local restaurant with local dishes in Butogato.

The goal for today is to reach the mountain village of Ruhija, which is no small feat as the route is short but includes quite a few uphill stretches. You’ll climb to an altitude of about 2300 meters. Since you’ll be cycling along the border of Bwindi Impenetrable Park, there’s a good chance you’ll encounter some monkeys. The park’s name comes from the dense growth of bamboo, ferns, and vines that make it almost impossible to enter the forest. As the route ends at a high altitude, it will be cool in the evening. Most accommodations offer stunning views of the rainforest.

In the morning, you will descend through Bwindi Impenetrable Park. If you are very, very lucky, you might come face to face with the famous mountain gorilla, as you will be riding through its natural habitat. Tip: Have lunch in Muko at the breathtaking and deepest lake in Africa: Lake Bunyonyi. The name means “place of little birds,” a true paradise for birdwatchers. After Muko, you will ride along the lake, where you will face a few steep climbs. There are many different lodges and guesthouses to choose from, but the most fun is to stay in a guesthouse on one of the islands in the lake.

Today is a rest and travel day. After breakfast, you will hop in the car and head to Lake Mburo National Park. On the way, you can have lunch at the Igongo Cultural Center, a place dedicated to promoting the Ankole tribe. If you’re interested, you can visit the small museum in about half an hour. Not long after lunch, we’ll arrive at Lake Mburo where you can sleep in one of the camps or lodges near the park entrance. These accommodations are regularly visited by wildlife and are also an ideal starting point for a safari.

Wake up and have breakfast while overlooking the park. There’s a good chance you’ll see some wild animals grazing nearby the camp. After breakfast, you’ll cycle along the park border with a local guide. You can expect to encounter zebras, antelopes, and water buffaloes. The route is always a surprise because it follows some wild trails that are constantly changing. In the afternoon, we’ll drive back to Entebbe, passing the equator for the second time.

Depending on the departure time of the plane, there may still be a chance to visit Entebbe or Kampala. The Uganda mosque, Idi Amin’s torture chambers, Owino market, and the Banange brewery are definitely worth a visit. If you prefer some more relaxation, then the beach of Lake Victoria or a visit to the botanical garden in Entebbe is an option. Whatever your activities may be, we will make sure that you arrive at the airport in plenty of time.
